Before starting the design process, the designer must understand the basic and essential requirements of designing a brand identity. The design must meet the needs:

  • (1) Differentiation: As competition intensifies, businesses need a unique selling point to make an impression on customers. This differentiation must be reflected in the brand identity products, such as the logo, slogan, etc., so customers can easily recognize and have a favorable impression from the first moment they see and hear them.

1. Research and define the brand before designing

Researching and defining the brand before designing is considered the most time-consuming and effort-intensive stage for designers. To create valuable brand identity products, designers need to invest time and effort to research, explore, and think creatively to develop basic sketches.

A brand identity is the face of a business, the means of recognition, and the bridge between customers and the industry, helping to convey its message and assert its brand. Therefore, the designer must understand the mission and business objectives of the company to be creatively innovative in the right direction. Who are the potential customers that the business is targeting? What is unique about the business’s products? What message does the brand identity need to convey?

2. Ideation and sketching of the design

After identifying the fundamental issues of the brand, we will start ideation and sketching the design. You can refer to the brand identities of competitors for analysis, evaluation, and learning. Then, draw the messages into images based on your creativity, design thinking, and experience.
