What’s Special About Mooncake Boxes Branded Louis Vuitton, Gucci Worth Millions of Dollars?
Even famous fashion brands have their mooncake-selling days.
This is just a marketing campaign for famous brands with branches located in China. Besides the source of profit, the brands also enhance their reputation in the top world market.
Mooncakes originated in China more than 3000 years ago. The purest traditional mooncake of the Chinese people is round-shaped, filled with red bean or lotus seed paste, and has a significant position in the traditional culture. This is a cake to enjoy and a gift to connect relationships. This year, the Mid-Autumn Festival falls on September 24th.
“When in Rome, do as the Romans do,” large foreign brands, when entering the Chinese market, also quickly understood this custom. Evidence of this is that this autumn, a series of mooncake types have been launched by seemingly unrelated brands.
Louis Vuitton
Louis Vuitton’s mooncakes are placed in an elegant gemstone-studded box with the iconic logo in the center. You’ll find stacked drawers containing a carefully packaged cute little mooncake when you open the box. What do you think of a million-dollar mooncake box?
Armani
Mooncakes produced by the fashion brand Armani come in an outer box that looks no different from a traditional Kjeldsen cookie box. However, the package is covered in luxurious leather instead of metal, reminiscent of 80s makeup cases. In the middle of the lid, you’ll see a perfect golden sickle-shaped moon symbol for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Armani’s style is modern, with a touch of retro personality.
Tod’s
The packaging of Tod’s mooncake box is exceptional, reflecting the investment and meticulous research of the brand into traditional Chinese culture. Combining traditional paper-cutting patterns into a cube-shaped package, the box looks like a tiny glowing lantern. Mooncakes, the moon, and lanterns symbolize the Mid-Autumn Festival. This combination has been done very skillfully and delicately by Tods.
Kenzo
The packaging design of Kenzo is not too unique, just a wooden box with a sliding lid. However, Kenzo’s egg-filled mooncakes are genuinely delicious.
Gucci
Gucci’s mooncakes are placed in square boxes with classical floral decorations. Six packs of mooncakes are neatly placed in a dome-shaped paper box decorated with bold Western-style floral patterns. In addition, there is a small drawer on the outside of the box where four stamps with images of four animal species in this year’s collection of the brand are stored. It is indeed a convenient and clever combination.
Fendi
Among the luxury brands that have entered the mooncake market this year, only Fendi has painstakingly applied some high-tech techniques to its mooncake box. Fendi sells mooncakes and cleverly inserts a small projector inside the box. When you open the box, the projector will project the new Fendi logo in the upcoming fall/winter 2017 collection. Customers are not only surprised but also intrigued by this sophisticated arrangement.
Tiffany & Co
Tiffany & Co.’s mooncake box looks like a makeup case with a silver lock. You will see four mooncakes in the middle of the box’s blue background when opened.
